Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Events!

Sunday, September 26, 2010 - Santa Barbara.  RPCVs, relatives and friends are invited to the opening of the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps celebration.  http://www.cappscenter.ucsb.edu/fliers/PeaceCorpsFlierCMYK2.  

The Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion, and Public Life at UCSB is arranging a Celebration of the 50h Anniversary of the Peace Corps in the fall, 2010 which will include a panel discussion, lectures, film screening, and book/photo exhibits.   I am writing to invite you to the inaugural event, "International Service:  Bringing The World Back Home," at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26 at the Lobero Theatre which will be followed by a private reception in the Courtyard (see attached).

This free, public event will feature a panel discussion with Sarah Chayes, former international correspondent for NPR, author of The Punishment of Virtue: Inside Afghanistan After the Taliban, and founder of the Arghand Cooperative in Kandahar (Morocco 84–86), Gordon L. Radley, former president, Lucasfilm Ltd. and senior executive at major motion picture studios and independent production and distribution companies (Malawi, 68-70, Western Samoa, 79), and Thomas Tighe, President and CEO, Direct Relief International who served as Associate General Counsel of the Peace Corps and Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer of the Peace Corps (Thailand, 86-88) Congresswoman Lois Capps and Victoria Juarez, President, Santa Barbara Peace Corps Association (Russia, 00-02) will make opening remarks.
