Lee Brainerd

Lee Brainerd: RPCV (Senegal, ’72-’74), Lee was a Peace Corps recruiter for 6 years, also teaching ESL to “boat people” in Boston & New York, and later U.S. Civics to amnesty seekers in L.A. She has written or co-written over 40 textbooks and test-prep books. Lee was active in the California home schooling movement, authoring two books on the subject. She introduced the International Alternative Gift Market to Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church and founded Pasadena’s Peace Corps Sunday, where RPCVs from all over SoCal come to share their Peace Corps stories, music and artifacts with hundreds of children and adults, while facilitating multiple fund raisers for Peace Corps Partnership programs.

Sonali Kolhatkar

Sonali Kolhatkar: Journalist as well as host and co-producer of “Uprising” on KPFK-Los Angeles. She speaks truth to power, particularly in support of Afghan women and women everywhere. Sonali co-wrote the book “Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords, and the Propaganda of Silence.”
