December 2012 – May 2013
Celebrate the holidays at the RPCVLA holiday party on the evening of Saturday, December 8 at Rachael Simidian’s home in South Pasadena! We will enjoy latkes and menorah lighting in honor of the first night of Hanukkah, and empanadas in honor of the fact that empanadas are delicious. Please a dish of your own and/or a drink of your choice to contribute the holiday potluck.
During the party, in lieu of the white elephant gift exchange, we will be putting together care packages for currently-serving volunteers in need of cheer and chocolate. Please bring items to put into the packages. See our news story below for more details.
The exact details of the holiday party are coming soon, so keep an eye on your emails!
Please join us for our most important Board Meeting of the year!
This is your chance to really influence RPCVLAs agenda for 2013. Run for an officer position, propose or organize an event, give input on what is really important to you as a RPCV in LA and how the group can better serve our members!
You don’t have to run for a Board position to attend. We would love to have a full room of people with great ideas and feedback. However, if you are interested in running for a position, this is the meeting for you!
All Board positions are open. Positions that we are particularly interested in finding applicants for include: President, Treasurer, Membership Coordinator, Webmaster (we are moving to a new platform so this will be easy!), Marketing Director, Social Media Coordinator, Events Coordinator, Yamanaka Fund Director and NPCA Liason.
There will also be plenty of time to socialize and have a drink and nibbles with friends.
Please feel free to email current President Kathy Nesteby with any questions at email@example.com.
We look forward to seeing you!
In anticipation of the opening of the Veterans Home of California’s 242-bed Skilled Nursing Unit, we are seeking volunteers to paint 4 serene murals along the soon-to-be busy residential corridors. Big Sunday volunteers will have the opportunity to create relevant themed murals, each above a bench, which can also serve as a point of reference (i.e. pass the mural with the lighthouse en route to the Dining Room). The walls are 14 feet wide and 7 feet tall. If you are willing to work together and can paint by number, come join the RPCVLA Team led by Volunteer Heather, who recently returned from Benin.
This project will begin at 8:00am and run to 4:00pm. Part-time help okay. While we’re using interior paint, wear clothing that a few polka-dots won’t ruin. Bring a smile and plan to join additional volunteers planting trees and veterans painting other murals for a celebratory Cinco de Mayo lunch with the residents.

Located in West Los Angeles on the Federal VA Campus, this Veterans Home opened in October 2010, currently has 112 residents, including a Memory Care unit. Work together with veterans who also proudly served our country. If you have any questions, the Project Leader is Lindy Lindeman who works at the CalVet Home (Tel: (424) 832-8218 and Lindy.Lindeman@calvet.ca.gov).
